Use colour to convey mood and feeling

Artist Statement

Art for me is an attempt to express the realities of my experience both on an inner and outer level and as such my work is constantly evolving.

I came to Australia in the seventies, after graduating with a major in painting from Canterbury University, New Zealand and taught art in the Eastern States before coming to the Gold Coast. My early works were inspired by the migrant children I taught in inner city schools.

I left teaching in 1991 and focused on developing my own works. My professional art career has had many highlights including being 'artist in residence' at 'The Royal Pines Resort' on Queensland's Gold Coast and a successful representation at the '5th Istanbul Art Fair'. The greatest highlight as an artist however is still when individuals get joy from living with my works.

I use colour to convey mood and feeling. Kandinsky's theory on the spiritual associations aroused by the use of colour has been a strong influence

The works of the INTERIORS express the spiritual journey by contrasting darkness with a source of light. The stairs convey a means to move from the darkness into the light. I see these works as meditative and always feel a sense of resolution on their completion.

My BEACH series are less intense works which express my love of the beach on which I lived.

The REFLECTIONS series is a body of work reflecting the joy of sunlight and shadow playing on surfaces.

The FLOWER series uses flowers to express a variety of moods.

All my works are ARCHIVAL in quality. I work in a variety of media including watercolour, canvas and artist board.
